D THINKER INTERVIEWS NIETZSCHE

D THINKER
I heard you collapsed, are you better now? Do you think you think too much...
NIETZSCHE
Be careful when you fight the monsters, lest you become one.
D THINKER
You have lost faith in God, your father's faith made him into a vicar. Like Wagner you show more respect to eastern religions like Buddhism.
NIETZSCHE
Do not mention Wagner to me, though I still hold a light to his Opera Tristan. My faith is in my pen. In heaven all the interesting people are missing.
Nietzsche looks in the distance, lowering his eyes to the left.
In truth, there was only one Christian, and he died on the cross!
D THINKER
You are not really read by the Christian Right. They took riot on the streets claiming you are raving mad. Even your sister fears for your insanity.
NIETZSCHE
Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule.
Nietzsche drinks from a bottle of mineral water, trying to hesitate a reply...but keeping his eye on D THINKER.
D THINKER
Did Christ sacrifice individually to save such groups from insanity? Do not they speak in tongues?
NIETZSCHE
Perhaps the holy spirit was a free spirit, it speaks in tongues; this I consider more sane than their words. The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.
Agree?
D THINKER
Yep, I believe in groups which have many contours, rather than a group as a mono mass.
NIETZSCHE
The visionary lies to himself, the liar only to others.
We both sense the same sorrow and dullness in their melancholy. You see it too!
D THINKER
Yes, I look intently at his left eye, so my eyes do not move left and right.
NIETZSCHE
When you stare into the abyss the abyss stares back at you.
D THINKER
Perhaps this is a good time to end, but the abyss is - quoting William James...
The stream of thought flows on; but most of its segments fall into the bottomless abyss of oblivion. Of some, no memory survives the instant of their passage. Of others, it is confined to a few moments, hours or days. Others, again, leave vestiges which are indestructible, and by means of which they may be recalled as long as life endures.(1842 - 1910)
Some Christians love their enemies, though not always, but do you love them back!
NIETZSCHE
May I add one word,
The man of knowledge must be able not only to love his enemies but also to hate his friends.
